A warm welcome to another season!

Latest information is on the Captain's Page under both B&DCL League and also Dorset League, main menu bar, Dorset Chess website.

At time of writing these notes, Weymouth have just moved their club night to a Thursday for season 2019/20 and will share the Colliton Club, Dorchester with Dorchester. Talks took place for Dorchester and Weymouth to have a combined team in County 3, but Dorchester decided it would stretch their playing resources too much for this season. However, they are going to explore a Bacchus West option with Weymouth and Purbeck.

And Ringwood are going to play all their County League Div 1 home matches at Greyfriars, not the Old White Hart. But club nights will continue at the Old White Hart, as will B&D and Southampton League matches

Some changes are included in the latest B&DCL Rules.

One decision at the end of last season was to extend the use of Time Increments to B&D 2 & County 2 next season, as the default option. Time Increments can be used in B&D 3 to 5, but only if both captains agree in advance. In the 3 Dorset Leagues, Time Increments apply to Div 1 & 2, but can be used in Div 3 if the captains agree in advance. If, for some reason digital clocks are not available or used, then the conventional analogue clock time control should be applied.

The consultation process to set dates for the fixtures has taken place over several weeks and the final results are on ECF LMS and also as an Excel file on the Captain's Page on the website . The 2 hopefully match!

Clubs have been excellent in helping create a credible "Team Captains" listing here on LMS (main menu bar). To see it the detail, you do need to be logged in as a "User" or "Owner". And a reminder that due to Data Protection, only the individual can change their contact details by logging into "My Account".

The Reserve Place rule continues, of course in B&D.

The problem with some ECF grades needing an expected small adjustment after a gremlin in the system with B&D matches before Christmas, has been resolved and the grades as publishe are now revised and current.

Reminder all players taking part in league games should be registered with the ECF, especially to avoid game fees. ECF game fees become due after an individual has played more than 3 games in any one league. So for this purpose, e.g. B&DCL and County are separate leagues. Otherwise the ECF charge a grading fee to clubs at the end of the season.

Wishing you and your club a very successful and enjoyable season!

Best regards,

Mike (County and B&D Controller) 16 Sept '19
