The Kent County Chess Association organises competitive chess for 20 clubs in metropolitan and wider Kent

    It is a member of the Southern Counties Chess Union (S.C.C.U) and is affiliated to the English Chess Federation (E.C.F.)
      The KCCA runs 7 competitions for all degrees of playing strength. These are:-
    • County Cup – an open competition for teams of 6 in which there are no grading limits.
    • Lewis Cup – teams of 6 with an average grading limit per team of 175
    • Stevenson Cup – teams of 6 with an average grading limit of 155
    • En Passant Cup – teams of 6 with an average grading limit of 140
    • Harvey Cup – teams of 6 with an average grading limit of 125
    • Tom Fuller Cup – teams of 4 with an average grading limit of 110
    • Intro Cup – teams of 4 with an average grading limit of 95

    During the preliminary rounds to facilitate travel the clubs are divided into 2 areas, Metropolitan and Mid/East Kent The preliminary rounds are played between September and March. The top 2 teams in each tournament then play semi-finals against the winners and runners-up in the other area. The winners of the semi-finals then play in finals which are usually played in May at an agreed venue.
