Another excellent night of chess, Highcliffe made the long trek across two counties knowing victory would secure the league title. Dorchester fielded a strong team determined to do the double over us. So the stage was set, drug testing completed and phones switched off. Closely matched in grades on all boards, board 4 first to finish a draw as the position was repeated with no advantage. Next to finish board 3 Rob a pawn down to Mike in a rook and pawn ending. Ken on board 2 only allowed Nick 16 squares for all his pieces and eventually claimed the win 2-1 Highcliffe. Then finally the ever reliable Christian who seemed to be torturing poor Mark, and immediately after time control it was 3-1. So the league is won with a game to go. Next up Purbeck at home , so an opportunity to showboat in front of the home fans !
