After a late start (Highcliffe initially went to the wrong village hall) Purbeck’s first B-team match since 2019 began. Nick in his first match as captain was outplayed by Thomas in an unconventional Scandinavian and was checkmated. Derek fought back after an opening surprise only to lose a piece after which Matt never let him back into the game. Jack, in his first match game, gave a good account of himself but was beaten by his more experienced opponent, Dan Ursell. The one ray of light for the home team was Jeremy’s victory in a hard -fought game against Joshua winning first one pawn, then another and forcing resignation.
