Final match of the season for the DCL division two teams. Probably the fastest match, I’ve ever played in, with all games wrapped up and sets away by 9:10pm.
Board four was Derek and myself, by move 14 we had traded off the majority of the minor pieces. It didn’t take long to reach a draw as neither side had any advantage.
Board one was an aggressive double edged miniature where both players used around half their time on the first 12 moves. Steve Pollyn appeared to be two pawns up but offered a draw against the much stronger Steve Peirson due to the open attacking complications, which neither player were confident to pursue. A second draw was agreed.
Board two was next to finish. I briefly looked at the position and went out for a post analysis of my own game. Not long after, Nathaniel appeared and confirmed Wimborne’s first win of the evening.
Board three, Pete looked to be a minor piece up, as I was watching a bit of his game. In the end, Nick’s position had deteriorated and he resigned, giving Wimborne a second win.
Thanks to Purbeck for a very enjoyable evening of chess and making the trip over.

Simon's comments say it all. Well played Wimborne - a deserved victory and a well-deserved championship.

If you check out Wimborne B's 7 Game performance , they were out-graded in every game and even won a game where they had 3 players only - Thats pretty good I reckon , well played chaps.
