A good match
Finishing first Stephen seemed to win comfortably on board 1. On board 2 Michael set up a greek sacrifice giving up his bishop for a pawn on h7 but overlooked a defence by Paul. Bournemouth then secured the match with a hard fought draw on board 4. Board 3 was a lively affair. Daniel seemed to a have a winning attack on the kingside as he had queen, bishop and knight surrounding Larissa's king and was only one move away from a forced win. However, Larissa then sacrificed back to create attacking chances of her own against Daniel's exposed king in the centre. A perpetual check perhaps should have resulted but Daniel was keen for his king to go AWOL by marching it to the 8th rank where, despite its very exciting journey, it was finally mated. It was very sporting of Daniel to allow the mate.
Overall, it was an enjoyable evening and Bournemouth C were the deserved winners. We look forward to the return match.
