Lytham needed to draw the match 4-4 to progress to the next round. Poulton’s target was therefore 4.5 points.
After the first pairings the score was 2-2. Advantage Lytham! I cannot comment on the games as John on board one kept me busy defending for a long time before he took a perpetual. The second pairings saw some lively games - a quick glance at the half way stage told me it could go either way. In the end the results went Poulton’s way and we won 4-0, making the final score 6-2.
