First match of the season for Weymouth who now play at the Redlands Sport and Community Centre. Despite the room we were playing in still showing damp patches to the ceiling and carpets from storm Ciaron the match turn out to be very tight on all boards. Draws on boards 1,3 and 4 left me playing with a slight advantage in the late middle game. Simplifications lead to a drawn rook and pawn ending, but one mistake decided the game in whites favour. It is good to see a Bournemouth team playing at the highest level in the Dorset League and hopefully they will get some good results this season.

As Allan states there were solid draws on boards 1, 3 & 4 which were finished by 9.30pm. Allan's game v Alex on board 2 was the most interesting and both players were playing well. However, a late mistake by Alex in the rook and pawn ending gave Allan his opportunity which he took. Despite putting up further resistence, Alex could not hold the position and Allan won with his extra 2 pawns at just before 11pm!
Well played Weymouth and good luck for the rest of the season.
