Four very interesting games in great surroundings. Ellis and Matt were equal for most of the game on top board until Matt overlooked a mating threat which was delivered ruthlessly. Andy had a four pawn push in the opening and constrained Neil in a very complex game, Neil defended valiantly but Andy prevailed through some precise play. Mike had dominance in the opening but Susan fought back well, but 4 connected passed pawns with bishop and rook vs 2 rooks proved decisive.
3-0. My game with Tim was very even and Queen and Rooks on the board with 6 pawns in a locked up position looked drawn, but Tim found an opening, and broke through winning a pawn, one small error though gave me the initiative with an open file and mating threats so we pulled one back and Highcliffe narrowly avoided a whitewash.
Thanks to Poole for being great hosts and deserving winners in an enjoyable evening of chess.
