Quite the finish this evening! Board 1, 2 and 6 finished fairly quickly. I didn't see any of board 6 but I understand Simon was completely outplayed. Raimund messed up the opening and ended up in a tough endgame a pawn down; I thought he was dead lost so I've no idea why his draw offer was accepted! I think I surprised Steve with my anti-Dutch, went an exchange up but then had to give it all back again to protect my king and mop up the other end.

Steve and I then went to the bar where we confidently predicted the outcome on the remaining boards, only to be completely wrong on every one.

The remaining games swung wildly. Darren looked better but walked into a king and queen fork; on board 5 both players were aggressively trying to kill each other with queens and rooks, not sure if it was forced but Binoy's opponent had to give us his queen to avoid mate; this left Mark needing a win in what looked like a dead drawn position. Late in the evening with lots of spectators his opponent somehow miscalculated and let Mark take the spoils.

Hard luck Purbeck, lots of exciting games and the tightest of finishes. See you next season I hope.

What a match! It could have gone either way right to the end and, Adam says, it was impossible to predict which way any of the games was going to finish! Anyway, well played Yeovil and good luck in the next round.
