Wow great match it was like watching Liverpool in the champions league. Highcliffe needed 5-1 with a grading difference of 35 . Bruce was the first to finish 1-0, Rob next on board 5 so 2-0, I managed to make it 3-0 against Daryll, then Andy made it 4-0, then things got scary, Ken accidentally picked up the wrong knight so promptly lost a piece and the game so 4-1. It was all left to Christian and Graham, no time increments it got very tense Christian 2 rooks and 3 pawns Graham a rook bishop and 3 pawns one of them passed, eventually in what would have been a very difficult game to win Graham lost on time. So Highcliffe progress. Thank you Ringwood for another great night regards RU

So close and yet so far. But
So close and yet so far. But a very good evening of chess none the less.
My play would have embarrassed a turkey. And Bruce put me away with his normal aplomb.
Graham was unfortunate not to pull off a draw at the end, but with no increments, Christian got the result that his earlier play deserved.
I though we had good chances in Merlin's and Darrell's games. But the strength and experience of their opponents eventually prevailed.
Pride of place on our side went to Malcolm who dispatched an opponent 30 point higher graded.
Good luck to Highcliffe in the next round.
