The teams were very evenly matched and this was reflected in the closeness of the games and the final result. Board 2 was the first to finish - the final position was fairly balanced even though there was plenty of play left in the position. On board 1, a double rook endgame was reached but with only one pair of pawns exchanged and no open lines, I offered a draw which Mark initially turned down but after a couple more moves he then offered a draw which I accepted. Purbeck was a pawn up on board 3 and a pawn down on board 4. A nice combination by Tim on board 4 netted another pawn and Derek resigned soon after. On board 4, Nick was able to swap off both pairs of rooks to simplify to a won K + P ending. Thanks to Wimborne for an exciting start to the season.
