Preston 4 continued a good start to the season with a 3 1/2 - 1/2 victory over Lytham.

On Board 1, Hari’s greater knowledge of KID theory allowed him to build a huge time advantage of over an hour and eventually his opponent resigned after 20 moves. Board 2 saw an even Italian game that turned into a slightly better endgame for White, who managed to convert.

On Board 3, White played the Bishop’s opening and the game was decided by a blunder that allowed Black to fork the Queen and Bishop and go up an exchange. Finally, on Board 4 Black put up some stellar defence to hold back multiple White attacks and the game ended in a draw.
