Fareham welcomed us on a wet and windy evening and we knew we had a tough task ahead of us with the rating differences. Not sure anyone knew what was going on on board 1 apart from the players in a complicated Benoni. I did not see the end, but Roland came out on top.
On board 2 Dave mentioned that he could have resigned very early as had a horrible position. Not easy playing Black against an FM and giving almost 450 points and Tony brought home the win.
On board 3 the position was looking very drawish but I had used more time and Adam declined my draw offer. He then blundered a piece 2 moves later. Despite this he drummed up threats and my time dwindled. As I was living on the increment he accepted my 2nd draw offer - a painful draw for me, but it could have been worse.
Eric and Philip both drew on boards 4 and 5, although I did not see much of their games.
Good luck to Fareham in the next round and maybe it is time for the Rob Plate to revert to the normal plate for 1st win losers in the Cup?
