The final result flattered Chandler's Ford as most of the games were hard fought. After a complicated opening my game against Ted was agreed drawn as we approached an ending. Dave Holmes was next to finish after drumming up a large attack in the opening.
Iwan won a pawn but the position was not easy to win, until a mistake by Joe meant Iwan brought home the point. The last two games went to the wite, Bill sacrificed the exchange and the position was very complex, but it soon looked as if Jack had weaved his way to a winning game. I think he missed a tactic which saw Bill find some excellent moves to finish what would have been a pretty mate, although resignation came first.
The final game between Eric and Tom went to the wire. Eric mentioned that Tom had the better game, but went slightly wrong allowing a winning attack.
Bill Purkiss has a P rating, but currently estimated as 1700 for league games as he has only just returned to playing chess after a 15 year break.
