| Text | The John Cousens Vase was presented to the club to be used for a Handicap tournament. It has the distinction of being the only Broadstairs club trophy manufactured by the donor.
For many years this was a time handicap but in 2023 this was changed to a material handicap as set out in “The Game of Chess” by Harry Golombek, published around 1970. This type of handicap tournament has not been seen locally since it was played in the 1970’s at Canterbury Chess Club, then meeting at St Augustine’s College. |
