The Thanet & East Kent Chess League organises competitive chess for the clubs in East Kent. Please see website https://thanetchess.org/
The League is a member of the Southern Counties Chess Union (S.C.C.U.). The annual Thanet Chess Congress is held in August.
The League runs competitions for all levels of playing strength as follows:
Millar Cup - teams of 7 players, no grading limits.
Hargreaves Shield - teams of 4 players, maximum grading limit of 140
Walker Shield - teams of 4 players, maximum grading limit of 115
Steele Cup - teams of 4 players, average grading limit of 125 (min. 75)
Mick Croft Cup - teams of 5 players, average grading limit of 125 (min. 75, defaults = 100). Knockout. Tiebreak by bottom board elimination.
Julius Day Shield - Jamboree at the end of the season.
Micklethwaite Trophy - Individual 10 second Buzzer.
Micklethwaite Shield - Teams of 4 players, 10 second Buzzer.
Individual Quickplay Trophy - Each player has 15 minutes per game.
Team Quickplay Shield - Teams of 4 players, 15 minutes per game.
Lohmann Cup - Individual Championship.
