With nothing much to separate the two teams rating wise this was likely to be a close match. Kevin winning on board 1 in a wild position gave Weymouth a good platform to build upon. Andrej's game on board 2 was rather dull by comparison. Malcolm converted his pronounced positional advantage, and Frank's game always looked like it could end up drawn. Bottom board was the last to finish and Binoy was winning comfortably going into a rook and pawn ending, but John's greater experience told in the end as Binoy ran short of time using the old time control. Despite all the mistakes, and the many rules of chess that were broken by both players, it was thoroughly entertaining for the crowd, but not for the captains.
