Highcliffe had an average grade of 1749 New Milton 1624 this meant Highcliffe need 4-2 to win the match

Andy and Barry played out a lively draw, I had no clue what was going on, I was a little relieved when they agreed a draw as I now knew what was required

Brian and Johann playing on board 6 , great to have Brian back he slowly took control which was crucial as we needed at least two wins so 1.5 -0.5 Highcliffe .

Ken picked up a pawn early against Tim and managed to take the pawn to the endgame as an outside passer so distracted the king and Ken’s pawn was promoting forcing Tim to resign.

Adam had a strong advantage out of the opening against Reenen but some solid defence and a blunder of a pawn from Adam left Reenen advantageous but was very difficult so a draw was agreed.

Paul and John played out a brutal game, 80 moves had been played before the first pawn was captured ( that was how it felt) it was a war of attrition this should have been a routine victory for Highcliffe but New Milton had other ideas they fought with passion for every square, Paul eventually gained the advantage when John resigned it confirmed Highcliffe as the winners.

Martin was winning at the end of a interesting game after turning an exchange up to a piece for 2 pawn but while winning in the final position he agreed a draw as the result was sealed.

Always a pleasure seeing our local friends from New Milton!
Third times the charm as they say!!!
