Highcliffe Castles vs Southbourne Seagulls
In this important penultimate match of the season, Southbourne got off to a flying start within 20 minutes with a decisive win by Finn Schell. After a longer period of time, Highcliffe equalised the score through Roger Howell's solid play taking advantage of Ken Dixon's mistake in the opening which meant that Ken was always struggling. The games on Boards 4 and 2 were closely contested with the game between Dan Ursell and Anton Vann being described by the players as both 'interesting' and 'a bumpy ride'!. Anton gained the better position and emerged from the 'ride' victorious.
The all-female battle on Board 2, was tense and the last to finish with Rachel's flag about to fall. As the seconds ticked down, Florence very much had the upper hand and Rachel resigned.
Many thanks to Highcliffe for their hospitality and for a well organised match despite their captain being unwell.
