A pleasant night out in Purbeck, if not the result we hoped for! We did at least, turn up on the right night this time!
The games were well fought and closer than the match score suggests. Playing conditions were excellent.

Ringwood's board 4 was M.
Ringwood's board 4 was M. Hull (1400e) - I'm afraid I don't know how to add him to Ringwood's player list (in fact I'm probably not allowed to!). The match was nowhere near as one-sided as the score suggests - after George's relatively quick win on board 4 and a draw in a balanced position on board 2, the other 2 games could have gone either way for much of the evening. On board 3 Nick was struggling a bit with only a pawn for the exchange but he finally managed to turn the tables to win. On board 1, I thought Martin and I played pretty well for the first 30 moves - he had a strong initiative on the queenside and I thought (perhaps optimistically!) I had attacking chances on the kingside. But then we both went into self-destruct mode - I started with a blunder that cost me a pawn and should have cost me another and the game but Martin went for mate. Then it was his turn to blunder and I ended up checkmating him.
