This top of the table clash
This top of the table clash started with the Poole B board 4 being brought in as a last minute reserve and going to the Poole home venue, then having to dash over to Dorchester to play the match. Frank sportingly delayed starting the game until quarter to 8. By this time John had mixed up his opening lines and was in big trouble against Kevin Goater. Kevin played well and the game ended quickly. Board 3 wavered between slight advantage and even, and Richard won a pawn, but the opposite coloured bishop ending was always going to end in a draw. In my game I thought Cip played a little passively and allowed black a comfortable game. A neat finish ended the game in blacks favour and Weymouth moved top of the table.
