Wimborne A playing their first match of the season fielded a typically strong team against a Highcliffe team supported by Martin, this meant that all 4 boards were closely matched. The results bear this out as Martin and Ian were the first to finish sharing the points, followed by Bill and Adam a few minutes later. Myself and Peter agreed a draw as well from a London system. So it was left to Bruce and Eddie to settle the tie. Masks on and social distancing being observed they served up a thriller with both on increments. Everyone had an opinion on moves that could have been played but ultimately Eddies time ran out, so points go to Highcliffe by the narrowest of margins. Yes a close match but after
Yes a close match but after the first 3 matches were drawn quite early ( by about 9pm ) on all rested on board 2.
Bruce had a strong position and Eddie could hardly move . Bruce kept the pressure on but could not find the killer moves for a long time and missed several moves to finish the game but eventually the pressure told and much to relief of all watching finished just before 11pm !
