The spoils were shared between Harrow D and Uxbridge Junior A on Thursday night at 2-2.
Board 1 was first to finish when Dhairye quickly defeated his opponent in less than 25 moves following blacks suspicious chase of a pawn whilst neglecting development . Richard paid the price in spite of him setting up an impregnable wall of minor pieces and pawns in which turned out however to be pregnable after all. Once white broke through it was game over . One nil to Uxbridge

Board 3 was next to finish when Edward played the Qb6 variation of the advance French defence against Gesneria and managed eventually to win a couple of pawns . The result was never in doubt despite a long endgame sequence and good defending by Gesneria . Match card now one all
Board 4 was next to finish when Jenny having had the worse position for most of the match capitalised on a couple of inaccurate moves by Soumya to win her queen for insufficient compensation . The game was eventually won by Jenny yet she had to dodge a few bullets from Soumya . Match score 2-1 to Harrow.
Board 2 was last to finish with Patrick having a small advantage throughout the game with Samuel.A weak rook pawn tempted Patrick and he went for it. Samuel broke through on another part of the board and victory was eventually achieved by Samuel despite Patrick’s attempts to complicate . Overall match result drawn at 2-2.
The match was held at our lady of Lourdes church hall which is located close to major routes and it has a nice kitchen where tea , coffee and biscuits can be had for which visiting players made use of .
Following the early completion of the Board 1 game both players analysed the game with both Colin Hughes and Danny Knight suggesting improved moves and different plans . There were hidden defences and a knight was left en pris with both players missing this during the game . Post Mortem Analysis should be undertaken generally by players after a game to identify mistakes and seek improvements . Chess players are generally quite good at analysing given the opportunity
A number of parents were there watching their charges . Harrow C also played at the same venue with Uxbridge juniors B and also drew. So the whole affair was a well drawn out one . Roll in the return match somebody has to go down it can’t be another draw .
