Lytham 1 were depleted due to illness for this fixture where Phil Raynor deputised as Captain. On Board 1, Brett played 1 g3 - he won a central pawn in the early middle game and his superior pawn structure and better centralised pieces were sufficient to generate big problems for Phil who eventually also lost a piece. On Board 2, Dave Aspinall saved Lytham from a white wash, achieving a bishop and pawn ending where he had an extra pawn - he agreed the draw from a position of superiority. On Board 3, Darren unluckily lost on time in a position where he was a pawn down to Graham. Andrei lost a piece to Alan as a result of a combination based on an overloaded queen. At the end of the night, the Preston captain (Graham Ashcroft) generously agreed that it had been a well contested match throughout in spite of the difference in grade.
