This was a stunning win for Poulton 2, thanks mainly to 3 newcomers to the club in Mike, Christian and Bradley, who appear to have made up for the loss of David Phillips, Peter Garrett and Michael Parker. Just think what teams we could have had, if Covid had not caused most of the problem.
Mike and Christian were the first to finish, giving a 2-0 lead. Mike had Q and 2R against Q and R. Phil allowed the Q swap, then resigned. Christian played the King's Gambit and gave David several problems. Finally he sac'd a knight, giving him the advantage which led to Qg7 mate. Paul and Colin had a very close game. When the digital clock caused a problem, a draw was agreed. Brad was a piece down, but managed to equalise. Finally, with a passed pawn on the 7th. with the impending Q supported by a rook on the 8th. and Darren's R unable to help, Darren resigned.
