An enjoyable evening in a fine venue
The home side were significantly out graded, but nevertheless made Highcliffe fight hard for every point. Rachel won material in the middle game and pushed home her advantage to win first. I did not see much of Thomas' and Anton's game but they clearly battled hard - Tom coming out victorious in the end. I had a tough battle with Florence who kept finding fiendish traps from nowhere in a Queen Knight and 2 Rooks battle, it was a very even game until I found a Knight sacrifice (declined) that opened up the position giving me the advantage in the end game. Sue and Ken had some trouble starting the clocks meaning that their match went on well after everyone else had left - eventually both agreed a draw in time trouble. An enjoyable evening in a fine venue. Nice to see so many youngsters at Southbourne in a thriving Junior section.
