On a stormy night, both sets of players braved the wind and rain to do battle across the boards. Peter Erhardt took the early point for Bournemouth when Ollie miscalculated and was caught on the back rank by a queen and bishop checkmate. Thereafter the tide turned in Southbourne’s favour and, shortly after, Finn had a strong win against Greta whose position was difficult.
The two remaining games continued: whereas the game on Board 3 was closed with several of Anton’s pieces still on the back rank, the game on Board 1 was a pawn and king end game. Playing an excellent endgame, Florence got the better of the duel and Tony resigned in anticipation of the inevitable. Last to finish, on Board 3, Will lost his queen and Anton took full advantage, eventually winning for Southbourne to make it 3-1 to the home team.
Many thanks to everyone for turning up on an evening when many stayed home.
