Both teams had ungraded players on boards 3 and 4, with the Lytham players looking just experienced enough to have the edge. Darren managed to block David from making any positive moves, and Lytham's new player Marvin Carbin managed to be a piece and pawns up against Poulton's new player Peter Ayling. On board 2, Boris won John's queen with a bishop check, but then lost his own queen with a knight fork on queen and king. In due course, they agreed a draw. Veterans Ken and Keith had a very close game, with Ken coming out on top when he threatened a pawn with his rook. Keith could not see a way of defending it, and resigned.

Poulton's new player was Peter Ayling (not Taylor). This has now been corrected in the original match report.
