In an evenly contested derby match Preston 1 deservedly came out on top as a couple of errors from Preston 2 cost them dearly.
Most games went the way gradings would suggest, but Alan Pidcock got a creditable win for Preston 1 as Clifford Rutlidge played a slack move or two when not in any real danger. Peter Thompson was a pawn up quite early on with Carl Tillotson appearing to have little compensation and Peter eventually wrapped up the win.
In a tactical battle between Conor Reaney and Malcolm Peacock, Conor chose to exchange his queen for minor pieces rather than lose a piece outright. This gave him some attacking threats, but sadly for Preston 2 it was not enough to prevent Malcolm winning the game.
Graham Ashcroft and Phil Taylor played out an entertaining draw in a game in which Graham had much of the pressure, but Phil managed to create counter threats and in the end a draw was agreed after Graham won a couple of pawns, but would not be able to prevent his own king being completely exposed unless he simply repeated checking moves.
On board one Brett overcame Peter Jowett after Peter played an inaccuracy and was punished severely.
