Highcliffe were unable to field their strongest team, and were significantly outgunned by the League leaders - notwithstanding the scoreline we made Poole fight hard for every board. Richard trapped Andy's knight on board one and won a tight bishop and pawn endgame with accurate play.
Mike Tew went down two pawns in a hard fought middle game and similarly lost the game in the endgame.
Jan managed to hold Dragi very well and both players handled a clock malfunction (incrementing 15 minutes a move!) very amicably - Dragi eventually closed out another end game victory for Poole.
Andy and Simon on board 4 played out an 80 move epic while the rest of us retired to the bar with Simon ultimately winning with the exchange and pawns in a complex endgame with just 3 minutes left on the clock.
Very proud of the team who battled hard against opponents that on boards 2-3 outgraded us by 50 points a board.
Poole ran out worthy winners and hosted us as always in a friendly atmosphere and at a great venue.
