Wimborne had a formidable grade advantage on the top three boards but Highcliffe's players nonetheless equipped themselves well. I was too engrossed in my own game, in which Sue Kageler had much the better of the opening sequences, to give any meaningful comment on the other games. Fortunately for me Sue just slightly misjudged a very dangerous looking double knight and bishop attack to allow me back onto the front foot. The last game to finish was on board 3 and that went the full distance before Alan Tyler's pawn strengths finally prevailed against Roger Howell.
I didn't envy Highcliffe's players their journey home, as the rain was ferociously lashing down, but hopefully they all made it back safe and sound.

Despite being a tad outgunned, Highcliffe acquitted themselves well against a strong Wimborne team that look certainties to win the division - the score line suggest an comfortable home win but I think the visitors fought well on all boards, most ending in pawn finishes, with some close calls especially on boards 1 and 3. It was a bit miserable and on our next visit to Wimborne as well as hard hats we will take a raft and lifejackets.
