First to finish was board 1. John brilliantly sacrificed his knight on F7 to launch a devastating attack.
Then board 7, Geoff managed to land his opponent with an isolated queen pawn but neither side could make progress and in Geoff's words the game was "not very eventful".
In time trouble Pete dropped a rook on board 3. Preston were 2-0 down after three games.
On board 5 Matt played well and it was only on the 40th move that I was able to sacrifice a pawn and force a win.
On board six Carl was desperately trying for the win, castling opposite to mix it up, but Niamh used her bishop pair to good effect. Draws were also agreed on boards 8 & 4 leaving only board 2 remaining. Earlier Carl had the advantage - exchange down but three pawns up. With both players having less than 2 minutes remaining material was exchanged to reach a drawn position.
Well played Morecambe who faced higher rated opponents on every board and deserved their win.
