For the first time this season, all three top boards for Poulton 2 were unavailable. Poulton 2 had won all their previous 7 matches to become division champions, so this is a classic case of a team loss resulting from players playing higher than they normally would. Colin was the first to win, Dave resigning when it looked as though he had a possible mate-in-3 (subject to Colin not seeing this). Pat then secured a revenge win against Ken. Paul resigned against Bob, after a pawn check which would mean the loss of a rook. Finally, after nearly 3 hours, Andy had what looked like a winning position against John, with a passed pawn and two rooks controlling files, but Andy allowed a knight fork on his rooks, and John was able to finish the game off.
Well played by Lytham 3.
