This was a closely fought match: Board 1 was the first to finish - Alan and Phil arrived at a position with rook and bishop each with a symmetrical pawn structure - a draw was agreed. Graham Taylor won on time in a position where he was a piece ahead. Dave Aspinall was a piece down and Sean carefully prevented any counterplay such that Dave resigned. This left everything hanging on the game between Bob Tinton and Andy Wickens - for some time their game looked quite evenly balanced but Bob was able to activate the last of his pieces and get an attack going through the central files. This led to a decisive win of material and ultimately the game.
