Morecambe brought a very strong line-up to this match but Preston fought hard and the result could have been closer with a bit of luck.
On Board 1 John built up a big space advantage but David defended tenaciously until finally his cramped position cracked under the pressure.
On 2 Harry Patsos played the opening enterprisingly and looked to have a promising middle-game position. Gradually Alan worked his way back into the game and seized control of the only open file. A queen endgame ensued with Black having a dangerous passed pawn, but possibly White missed a draw by perpetual.
On 3 the game always looked level and a draw was agreed - very sportingly by Sean as Andy was in bad time trouble.
On 4 Preston`s new player is Haaris Raja. A tactical middle game was double-edged but Andy gained a pawn by a clever bishop sac on h3. Eventually Black won in a rook endgame. A promising debut from Haaris against an experienced opponent.
