An entertaining start to 2019 with all the games producing decisive results.
On Board 1 Paul played a reverse Sicilian to Blaine`s English Opening but White gained a lead in development. The awkward placing of the Black pieces resulted in the loss of the exchange which was sufficient.
On Board 2 Harry Patsos continued his sparkling form from December`s Preston Congress. His powerful attack could only be thwarted by loss of Black material and the eventual promotion of White`s a-pawn.
On Board 3 Peter had opening difficulties and was prevented from castling. Black won the exchange but the endgame of Knight and 7 v Rook and 6 had technical problems for Black. Josh chose the opportune moment to give back the exchange and go into a won pawn ending.
A lively game on Board 4 seemed to be going White`s way but in pushing home his attack Chris missed a cunning riposte from Ron which won the White queen.
