Board 2 was first to finish when Dave Aspinall agreed a draw with Niamh Bridgeman in a French Defence. Then on Board 4, Pat Coleman agreed a draw with Gary Bennett in the later phases of the middle game with material equal. On Board 3 Dennis Davies went a piece down but managed to get greater activity with his remaining pieces to recover his chances. However he then went two pieces down and had to resign. This meant that Rob Gallagher had to win on Board 1 - he had some pressure against Nick Jameson but NIck defended accurately to steer the game into an ending where Rob had the exchange for a pawn. In a fairly blocked position, Rob had to agree a draw.
