Preston's new player was Martin Hamer (ECF 192), not a bad replacement for Brett Lund on board 1!. Martin caught me out with a slightly unusual Jobava-style opening and had a better position for some time. I fought for space by pushing my uncastled kingside pawns and opening up the center. We both castled queenside eventually and I was able to create some unexpected tactical threats which restored the balance towards the time-control and forced a draw.
Despite being heavily outgraded, Rob gave Malcolm a tough game but lost because his king was more insecure than Malcolm's.
Phil's game had already been drawn and he remains unbeaten so far this season.
Bob Tinton lost a piece early on for no compensation and the result was never in doubt.
Dave's attacking style seemed likely to succeed once again but Paul was able to hold on in the endgame this time.
