In a highly entertaining evening of chess Wimbourne exacted their revenge over New Milton
after losing to them earlier in the season by a similar score. The top board pairing of Steve
Disney and Paul Brackner were the first to finish and after exchanging several pieces in the middle game the position was deadlocked and a draw agreed. After concerted pressure Mihail Nutu
managed to overcome Dave Lewis and record a nice win. At this stage New Milton looked to
be in the driving seat with both Simon Bown and John Belinger looking as though they were
getting on top of their opponents. However, such is the beauty of the game, they both over-
looked deadly moves from their adversaries and a sudden reversal of fortunes took place
from which there was no comeback. Well played Wimbourne.
