Wimborne B v Wimborne C

In grade terms this was a very closely matched derby across all four boards which was very much reflected in the games played. The two Grahams on the top board agreed an early draw but then Wimborne C gained the initiative with a win for Mike Jackson who took full advantage of a central pawn gained in the middle game. The decisive match was a strange affair on the bottom board where Steve Pollyn resigned, thinking his bishop lost, only for hindsight to reveal he in fact could potentially have gained a rook for a bishop with best play. With the outcome of the match no longer in doubt, a draw was amicably agreed in a closely contested game on Board 2. As one would hope, the match between fellow club members was played in a highly respectful spirit.
