Weymouth arrived one player down after an emergency accident at Steve Blakes home. Attempts at 6:30 to find a new player didn't succeed, but meant the three players in my car arrived a few minutes late for the match. I was prepared to default the board, but Eric insisted that we scratched the board. Great sportsmanship exhibited by Poole. Frank seemed to gain control from an early point in his game and went on to win fairly comfortably, while CL steered his game to an opposite coloured bishop ending which are notoriously drawn. On bottom board we lost on time when time pressure shouldn't have been an issue. I never understood what was going on it that game. My game probably decided the match and I think early on I tried a speculative c5 move. I'm not sure now whether it is any good, but Mike responded incorrectly and it became very good choice. They kept playing on and on and on on board 2, with neither player realising the match was already decided even if John won. The game swung rather interestingly one way and then the other and in the end a draw was agreed with both players have about a minute left. Thanks again to Poole for making it a good sporting occasion.

Wash cream. hand wipes and tissues were on display at the club with everyone nervous about the current virus but for it seems to have affected some of our boards in that Weymouth always seemed to have the edge in most of the games during the evening.
Many thanks to all our players whom gave their best as always but well done to our opponents for digging in so hard and good luck in the Final.
