Frank cracked first under too much queen side pressure. Chris Lane lost next, as he was a pawn down early on and then was forced to swap a knight for John's extra pawn. David then drew with Stephen. Last to finish was Paul who had a long, good and difficult game against Mihail. Although Paul eventually won on time, he had more pawns than Mihail and should have won the endgame.

Southbourne 'D' v New Milton 'B'
In this top of the table clash these two teams once again produced some very exciting chess,
but on this occasion it was New Milton who prevailed and took the points. First to finish was
Simon who conjured up a devastating queens side attack from which Frank could not repel.
After a tense fought middle game Steve and Dave agreed on a draw. In order to prevent a
pawn from queening Chris was forced to sacrifice a piece which enabled John to get on top
and register a win. The final board between Mihail and Paul was nail biting and lasted 3 and
a quarter hours. At the end Mihail got himself into considerable time trouble and could not
prevent his flag from falling. Thank you Southbourne for your mid-evening hospitality.
